A relatively subdued crowd came out to watch Westfield defeat Plainfield by a score of 16-2. Though Plainfield got on the board first scoring 2 runs in the top of the 1st, that's all they could muster as Westfield's pitching and defense kept them scoreless for the rest of the game.
Pitchers Varano, Summers, and Murray recorded a combined 10 strikeouts while allowing just 2 hits and 2 runs.
Westfield's scoring was spread out over multiple innings with the biggest blow coming in the fifth, when they sent 14 batters to the plate and scored 9 runs. In that inning alone, Westfield banged out 3 singles, 1 double, 3 triples and drew 3 walks.
Chris Rinaldi (HR) finished the night 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Difilippo (2 for 3, 1 RBI, 1 run scored), Mele (2 for 3, 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored), and Robertshaw (1 for 3, 3 RBIs, 1 run scored) each legged out a triple in that 9 run fifth while Devin Anderson ( 1 for 3, 3 RBIs, 1 run scored) joined the hit parade by adding a double of his own.
Next game on Thursday vs. Warren at 6pm (Away)
