Westfield banged out 15 hits and drew 10 walks as they beat Basking Ridge today by a score of 25 - 6. Hopper Murray led the offense going 3 for 4 and had 5 RBIs. Chris Boutsikaris and Scott Tupper (2 hits) both added 3 RBIs, while Brett Robertshaw, Eric Varakian and Vin DiFilippo each contributed 2 hits.
Starting pitcher Vin DiFilippo gave 2 strong innings, allowing no runs on 3 hits with 1 strikeout.
Westfield's defense was impressive today keeping Basking Ridge's scoring in check. With a baserunner on second, outfielder Ethan Smith hit cutoff man Chris Rinaldi who nailed the runner at home trying to score on a single. The next inning Rinaldi, Boutsikaris and Mele executed a picture perfect 6-3-2 double play. Adding to the defensive display was centerfielder Scott Tupper whose diving catch in the outfield drew cheers from the crowd.
Next on the schedule is Berkley Heights , Tuesday at 6 pm.
