Westfield Rally Falls Just Short in State Semi-Finals

Westfield found themselves down 7-0 after 4 innings to a tough Hazlet team in the semi-finals of the NJ State Babe Ruth tournament, but they showed great resolve and never quit and almost pulled off another miracle comeback. The boys pulled within 3 in the top of the 5th and had the tying run at the plate, but the 7 run deficeit proved to be too much and the rally died out before the cardiac kids could pull even. Westfield battled valiantly and lost a tough game to a tough team who Westfield had defeated 7-3 just 2 days earlier. Vin Difilippo threw 4 very strong innings and kept the Hazlet hitters off balance most of the night.

Hazlet now moves onto face Branchburg in the championship game with the winner advancing onto the North East Regional tournament in Troy, NY. Westfield now turns its attention to the league playoffs which start the week of July 21st.
